Maintenance Tips

Satureja douglasii is a California native perennial that stays very low to the ground but can spread up to 6'. It is considered drought tolerant, but it does look and perform better with some supplemental water. In a native garden with berms and swales, this plant would perform best in one of the swales that collect runoff. Pruning is rarely necessary if the plant is given the room it needs to reach its mature size. It prefers shade or part sun and can be a very successful ground cover under mature trees.
