Heuchera 'Wendy' belongs to the group of large leaf (H. maxima), native, Heuchera hybrids that prefer, dry, shady conditions. They thrive under native oak trees or in similar situations. Once established, they require virtually no care other than removal of the dead flowers after bloom in the spring. They are most effectively shown when planted in mass.

Maintenance Tips

Heuchera 'Wendy' is a popular hybrid of the native Alum Root and Coral Bell plant. It can reach a height of 2' tall and wide, with the bright pink flowers emerging another 12" above the foliage in the spring. These parent plants evolved in shady areas under trees and in canyons, so it is best to plant them in protected areas with minimal direct sunlight. If it is planted along the coast, it can usually thrive in full sun. There is very little maintenance involved with this plant. The older leaves tend to stay on the plant and collect under the younger foliage. These can be cleaned out occasionally to allow some sunlight to the inside of the plant and to improve air circulation. The flower stalks, once they are spent, can give the plant an unkempt look, so deadheading them will keep the plant looking and performing its best.
