Description

Salvia 'Waverly' is a perennial shrub that reaches 5' tall and wide. It needs full sun and medium amount of water. Pinkish white flowers bloom in the spring but this shrub has blossoms most of the year. This shrub will get knocked down to the ground when the first frost arrives; however, it will come back vigorously especially if pruned in February or March. Hummingbirds love the flowers.

Maintenance Tips

Salvia 'Waverly' is an herbaceous sage with a large, arching shape, reaching 5' tall and wide. The flower stalks can reach up to 15" long and can bloom throughout the year. This plant looks and performs best in full sun, and it is fairly drought tolerant. However, it can be planted in a dappled sunlight location with great results. In the sun, the plant will be shorter, denser, and full of color, so it would benefit from deadheading to encourage more flowers to develop. In the shade, it is often more free-form and taller as it is trying to reach the sun and usually has only sporadic blooms. They are very attractive to hummingbirds and butterflies, but they can also have periods where they are overrun with aphids or caterpillars. Using a pesticide can cause problems with the beneficial insects, so it is encouraged to use a strong jet of water to knock off aphid or caterpillar populations.
