Description

The Aromas Sage is a selection that stays more compact than the Cleveland Sage and grows to about 4' high and wide. It has distinctively fragrant, gray green foliage and whorls of violet blue flowers in spring and summer. It can withstand strong winds and is deer resistant. It prefers full sun and well draining soil.

Maintenance Tips

Salvia clevelandii 'Aromas' is a hybrid between the Cleveland Sage and the Purple sage. It is a very fragrant, woody sage that can grow 4’ tall and wide with tall flower stalks in the spring that attract birds, bees, and butterflies. It performs best in a sunny location with the space to reach its full mature size. Once the flowers have faded, the spent stalks can be deadheaded to keep the shrub looking tidy and encourage additional flowers. Woody shrubs tend to become dense with lots of cross-branching, so thinning out the branching and allowing sunlight to the interior will benefit the plant and will encourage new, green growth.
